Monarch Butterflies
belong to the the family Nymphalidae (brush-footed butterfly).

These insects contribute to the health of our planet through the pollination of wildflowers, so I built a little website to show my appreciation for these critters
and what they do for us!

Annual Eastern
Monarch Butterfly Migration

Every year, monarch butterflies fly up to 2,500 miles from the US and Canada where they breed, all the way down to the forests in central Mexico where they hibernate.

Monarch Butterflies
Rely on Milkweed

Milkweed is the sole host plant of the monarch butterfly. Monarch caterpillars eat milkweed leaves exclusively, and in fact, milkweed butterflies lay eggs only in milkweed. They have a sort of specialized relationship, which you can learn about in our educational tab!
